Surgery Center and Children's Ward Update

It has been nine months since we broke ground on our Children’s Ward and Surgery Center at Rehema Hospice and Clinic.

Much has happened since our last visit in October 2025. Some wonderful and some not so great things have happened since then.

One “wonderful” is the continued progress toward finishing this building, so that someday soon we will serve children who need excellent clinical and palliative care. As the rains come, many children suffer from malaria. And in the Lake Region surrounding Rehema, many children are born with painful sickle cell anemia, and suffer without care.

And the second “wonderful”? With the new surgery center, we will be able to care for expectant mothers who may need emergency c-sections, saving precious lives.

The “not so great” (and yet an incredible opportunity!) was having Rehema’s inpatient services taken away from us by the licensing board because we didn’t have a surgical suite for expectant mothers. This was a downgrade from a level 3A to a level 3B clinical medical facility; only 3A facilities can have inpatients.

So for some months now we have had empty beds and had to layoff some staff, but thankfully, were able to remain open for outpatient, laboratory, and pharmacy services.

But this setback was a great opportunity for us in that many of you stepped up to support Rehema and help finish this building. And look at what you’ve accomplished (See the photos and video below).

Now that we are nearly finished with our surgery center, we are hopeful that our inpatient status can be restored. But as always, we leave that in God’s hands and we keep praying that He will continue this journey of mercy to serve the medically needy in our small rural setting.

All glory to God and we rejoice in His mercy to Rehema and all of our Always Mercy supporters.

Rehema, this place of mercy, brings hope to those who need care of body and soul. We are very grateful for your prayers, and encouragement.
